Coleham Pumping Station
The Pumping Station houses two steam-driven beam engines which were built in 1897/98 by William Robert Renshaw to power Shrewsbury’s sewerage system. They were used until 1970.
In 1974 the building and pumps were acquired by Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and are currently undergoing restoration by the Shrewsbury Steam Trust which was founded in 1992.
I paid a visit there in September 2003 and took the following photographs. The volunteers of Shrewsbury Steam Trust were very helpful, as they are to all visitors. It wasn't until I walked into the building that I remembered my father taking me there in the 1960's.
